I worked closely with Barbara Filion, the Archaeology Museum Director, on multiple exhibitions for the rotating gallery space. We would discuss layout of the exhibit, wall colors, and then goals of the exhibit. Then I would determine size of the title, body text, and when needed caption text, as well as typeface that would help achieve the look and feel that she was looking for.
This exhibit, Spider Martin’s photo-documentation of the Civil Rights movement, From Selma to Montgomery, we chose a single panel of text, which I set in white vinyl. The deep red paint color helps to emphasizes the white frames and black and white photography and creates a sense of drama for the exhibit.
