Civil War 150 year Remembrance Conference Poster & Invitation

THE CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF WAR & MEMORY

The client wanted a poster for their Spring Conference. It was the 150 year Remembrance of the Civil War. The challenge was that the Center wanted to include every speaker and the title of their paper presentation on the poster. I used images of both Northern and Southern soldiers from the Library of Congress.

The design makes a statement by slicing through the bank of images towards the middle of the poster, symbolizing how our country was divided during this war. The invitation was designed to go with the Poster, but did not include each presenter’s name or paper. Again using images from the Library of Congress. The display typeface, Colt, used in both pieces is designed by Mattox Schuller with Fort Foundry.

This poster won a national design award: Certificate of Excellence from GD USA: American InHouse Design Award. The competition received over 6000 entries and only a highly selective 15% received the Certificate of Excellence.
